Finding the beauty of humanity through sPORT

I collaborated with Oakland Roots, a professional USL soccer club that embodies the heart and soul of Oakland. HUMAN.ET marked the launch of their Roots Artist Residency (RAR) program, blending art, fashion, and sports to support the local community and amplify the voices of the underrepresented. The concept of the campaign centered around bringing the comfort of home to the soccer field, paying homage to humble beginnings and the power of resilience.

Our featured artist, Jasko Begović, known as SKO HABIBI, designed and hand-sewed the entire apparel collection, making it a true labor of love. As a refugee from Bosnia, Jasko’s early years playing on concrete soccer fields heavily influenced the project’s narrative. We recreated scenes inspired by his grandmother’s living room and local markets to bridge his past with the present.

The HUMAN.ET collection included 22 one-off pieces of upcycled, hand-sewn apparel, a zine, and a short film, all reflecting the Oakland Roots’ commitment to giving a platform to local artists and supporting their community. The project was a visual and narrative extension of Jasko’s life journey and his deep connection to soccer.
